The importance of ABE & ABTO licenses
Battery producers are responsible for minimising the harmful effects of waste batteries on the environment
From a business perspective, battery producers have responsibilities for the batteries they place on the market and the disposal or recycling has to happen at either an ABTO, Authorised Battery Treatment Operator or an ABE, Authorised Battery Exporter.
An Approved Battery Treatment Operator will have an Environmentally Permitted site in the UK where treatment and recycling of waste batteries is carried out, and who has been granted approval by the appropriate authority.
An Approved Battery Exporter will have an Environmentally Permitted site in the UK and have the appropriate permissions (e.g. Transfrontier Shipment Notifications) in order to responsibly export batteries to international destinations for the treatment and recycling outside the UK, and who has been approved by the appropriate authority.
Lithium Battery Recycling Solutions is proud to be compliant with industry legislations having had our ABE & ABTO licensing renewed for the 2024 year, ensuring our customers can have peace of mind that they are dealing with a safe and compliant business.
